Dennis Pershing, known as Mr. P by the students who loved and respected him, was a teacher for 28 years in Alcoa City Schools. He was a special friend to all kids and voted by students as "Outstanding Teacher" multiple times. He devoted his life to his students, consistently helping those struggling with academics, family life, or simply in crisis.

"And he told no one," said Ed Pershing, one of three surviving brothers.

In 2006, Dennis died peacefully in his sleep, losing his decades-long fight to what started as a benign brain tumor. Despite years of illness, Dennis maintained an optimistic outlook and stayed focused on his mission to help and serve the students of Alcoa.

Mr. P’s Foundation was started to honor the work of Dennis through awarding scholarships to deserving Alcoa students while also trying to continue Dennis Pershing's mission via other means.
